towards mt. hamilton it's covered in clouds, light rain there and the sunshine over sunol, the roads are wet there. we had enough light rain to wet the ground there on 60 past the sunol grade and san francisco looking nice. if you're waking up this morning and wondering why the road is a little damp we did have light rain in san francisco but look at how quickly the clouds pick up as the winds pick up, dry things out and give us a sunny finish to the day. 47 degrees in san francisco, 50 in oakland, 47 in san jose as well, and you can see we have these 40s to low 50s this morning because most of the night, we had cloud cover and a little bit of drizzle at times. notice the winds picking up, west-northwest and we will see the winds 10 to 25 miles per hour this afternoon, taking the clouds and the moisture that we had at the low levels and pushing it off to the south and east. you can see a few sprinkles near mt. hamilton east of san jose. satellite view shows you the boundary of the weather system. it was fairly weak and most of it heading east of the sierra but it took what little moi

up on mount hamilton. snow fell as low as 2500 feet. down the hill in san jose, one of our photographers ran into some hail. didn't last long but enough to collect on the windshield of his truck but around most of the bay, the rain was the story, that and the blast of chilly air that had us digging out coats and rain boots this morning and the storm isn't through. chief meteorologist paul deanno shows us where it's raining now with our live high-def doppler radar. >> the rain is just about finished but the legacy of the storm will be several days at below normal temperatures. today only 49 degrees in downtown san francisco. live radar, kpix 5 high-def doppler radar showing dry conditions from the north bay, santa rosa you're dry. vallejo you're dry. walnut creek, san francisco, the peninsula dry. still seeing a few showers and above 2500 feet they are still snow showers. just to the north of gilroy, just to the east of morgan hill, along highway 101, we are seeing some showers in the diablo range and still a mix of rain and snow showers in the santa cruz mountains. scotts v

mixing in and mount hamilton and it is indicated by the pink here. the snow levels are about 2500 to 3,000 feet. but mount hamilton could be picking up some snow. we will be watching that. by 1:00 p.m., it is turning mostly sunny. the rainfall totals are not terribly impressive, but we will take any moisture. quarter to half an inch for most areas through friday afternoon. remember the last time we had measurable rain was two weeks ago. you will need definitely extra time as the oil slicked roads will make for a slow going commute. winter weather advisory on thursday at 10:00 a.m. to friday at 10:00 a.m. four to seven inches above 3500. low snow levels. chain controls are likely heading to the high country. if you do have travel plans, make sure you have your chains. chilly in the morning. you will need your winter coats and you will need the umbrellas. mid30s in the coldest inland spots and upper 30s in the inland east bay and also around san jose and half moon bay and santa cruz. most other areas will be in the low to mid40s as we check out your high temperatures. scattered showers

. >>> good evening. we begin near mt. hamilton in san jose where they rescued a man in a ravine. kimberly tere is there. >> reporter: emergency crews are still out here. there is a tow truck out here trying to get that car out of the ravine. just after 2:00 this afternoon, san jose fire said a car drove off mt. hamilton road crashing 150 feet below the cliff. the crash about a mile east of clayton road. emergency crews were able to coup the two people inside the convertible corvette but san jose fire says the terrain made it an arduous task. >> it went down about 150 feet into a ravine. very steep embankment. a lot of trees, bushes, things making access difficult. >> reporter: the first person was rescued about an hour after the crash. that was we're being told, the passenger and that person was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. the second victim, the driver was extricated after that and air lifted by a chp helicopter

yesterday afternoon on mount hamilton ro >>> a corvette goes flying off a steep cliff in the east san jose foothills. the accident happened yesterday afternoon on mount hamilton road and rescue workers face a challenging situation. they found the convertible buried in the brush. a passenger was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. but the drive was hurt more seriously with head injuries. they had to make a pinpoint landingon the narrow road. specialized rescue crews from the san jose fire department were called to extricate the driver through difficulties. >> the access problems, steepness, injuries to the patient, getting him out of the car at that level. >> it took about two hours to bring the driver to the road surface. he was then flown to a trauma center. the corvette's windshield is crushed on the driver's side and took hours to lift it up. so some tricky maneuvering for those crews out there. they were able to get the two people out. >>> 4:44. should we talk to lawrence again? >> i don't know. >> it's so good to see everybody so well rested and ready to go today. >> it is.

, tuesday night, wednesday morning could be as low as 3,000 feet. so obviously, mt. hamilton, mt. diablo, and mt. st. helena, could see a dusting as we go to tuesday night. mostly sunny skies, cooler, temperatures dropping about 5 to 7 degrees for sunday's highs. and then monday we'll deal with more clouds and low clouds for the morning. and then it is the afternoon that we'll see increasing clouds, a chance of showers in the north bay right after sundown. but the main event comes monday, midnight, into tuesday morning. a wet commute, things running down by tuesday evening. colder air surging in, and snow around mt. hamilton by tuesday evening. the rain, mainly a tuesday evening event, quarter inch to maybe a quarter inch of rain around sonoma county and the santa cruz mountains. the snowpack, looks like we should see a foot of snow in the sierra by tuesday night. tomorrow morning, patchy low clouds, dry on sunday, the highs, mid-60s, not bad around the valley, san jose, low 60s, 59 san francisco, and 62 for santa rosa. so from here temperatures will continue to drop off. the most active

it looked like earlier today on mount hamilton in the south bay. there wasn't just a dusting but a nice flurry of snow that filled the air and stuck to the ground. crews closed off mount hamilton road due to all the snow. meantime the santa cruz mountains got both snow and rain creating slushy conditions and slick roadways. we saw accidents on the roadway, they were all weather related. >>> the wild weather set off what appears to be a tornado in northern california this afternoon. check this out, this is home video provided to the red bluff daily news this afternoon. the national weather service says a weak tornado was spotted south of red bluff this afternoon. the funnel cloud had top winds of 40 to 70 miles per hour. >>> so what can we expect next? that was a cool picture there. chief meteorologist bill martin joins us now. he is live in the weather center. >> that was a great picture. with all the cameras you start seeing them. but during the day you would never see a tornado that well formed. they have always happened but now they're getting documentation. that's one of the be

the south bay hasn't seen much of this winter. thick snow capping mount hamilton in santa clara county above san jose and this wasn't just a dusting. it was a nice flurry of snow that filled the air and stuck toth ground enough so that officials closed off mount hamilton road to visitors. for deliveryman drew the cold weather was a mixed blessing. >> i live for the snow. working in it is terrible. doesn't make things easy at all. >> glanville showed us what he meant. he literally had to pry his delivery shipment boxes apart. >> it's freezing everything together. it's crazy. i was getting hailed on a few minutes ago. not easy to work. >> but the hail was sporadic. the rain was more steady and even heavy at time, especially in san jose as well as communities in and around the santa cruz mountains. for most people we talked to, though, they enjoyed a true winter-liefk day. >> well, we need the rain, which is great. the cold we've had enough cold. >> i like that it sort of got the winter feel finally. we haven't really had this at all this year, but it was -- i -- i mean, i like the

better way to do it. in fact, 15 ways to do it. do we have the clock? okay, the hamilton project is a think tank here in washington. and they asked experts to make the policies to reach two goals. they make the economy better, by growing the economy or protecting the environment or something. but here are my top five of the 15. number one, a carbon tax, and hamilton suggested we use money on a loot of it to lower the corporate tax rate, give money back to households and then cut the corporate tax result to 15 billion, we can do that by helping us fight global warming which is a far larger threat. and number two, get medicare to stop paying providers for every single thing they do, and begin paying them for each patient. they can keep the leftover money as profit. it forces them to think about how to treat patients as opposed to giving out services. number three, all the deductions, they do more for rich people. make them credits that everybody who pays income taxes can get. that makes it more fair and progressive. it raises $2.7 trillion, we can use most of that money to lower tax rat

and 5" of snow on mount hamilton and when the storm pass as slow warming trend headed into the weekend. the cold front shows how quickly it is coming down with the moisture lining up along it and most of it is going to be with the northern tail into the system or the northern head of the system will head to the sierra so they will get so much snow. we are on the tail end so we are going to get .25 to .5" of rain. the models are picking up pooling along the cold front, and light-to-moderate steady rain and 9:00 or 10:00 in the north bay moving into the heart of the bay and by noon the steady moderate rain is in the south bay and by 1:00 o'clock or 2:00 it is out but you can see the snow on hamilton, snow in the north bay, also, as we head into the afternoon showers and evening showers staying mainly over the ocean and one or two could stray inland and we could have the small hail. tomorrow morning, frost inland, and upper 20's to mid-30's and mid-30's to low 40's for the bay and the coast, and we will start warming with sunny sky and 60's are back in the forecast thursday away f
